They translate the ideas of others into workable blueprints and models that are used to create working proto-types and eventually, products.

Skills and Traits for Success

A computer aided designer will have a great working knowledge of several industry specific drawing programs. They may be required to call upon a variety of skills such as mathematical ability, creativity, and good listening. They may need to be able to use more traditional pencil and paper design tools from time to time.

Degrees Offered in Computer Aided Design

A typical two year program will open up most entry level positions to a student, but further experience may be required before advancement is possible. Many specialized industries will offer internship or apprenticeship programs for qualified applicants.

Education can further be advanced with certification programs in narrower fields. These are useful for getting into various industries such as automotive design, landscape design, or architecture.

What Will I Learn Through a Computer Aided Design Training Program?

Typically, a student will lean to use industry standard designing programs. They may train extensively on traditional pencil and paper design techniques as well. Design students work with experienced teachers to get the practical skills necessary to turn the ideas of others into a tangible product. Students enrolled in specialization programs will learn the specifics for their particular field.

What Kinds of Careers Can Training Help Prepare Me for?

A trained computer aided designer can work in nearly any field that requires concepts to be accurately laid out. Most technical positions will be found working in heavy industry and manufacturing.
